Wolfsschlucht 3D Archery Course
Note: The course is currently not in the best condition due to an illness-related absence of the operator. However, it is still open, can be walked on and will be brought back into shape in the course of spring.
The Wolfsschlucht 3D archery course was built in the summer of 2013 on the site of an old sandstone quarry between Kembach and Holzkirchhausen. It is operated by Peter Ament, who has built him completely by himself gradually.
The Facilities of the Course
The course has 30 stations with about 65 3D animals, which are integrated into the terrain in a very special way. The shots are sometimes challenging, but also very varied. There are shots from tree trunks, steep uphill and downhill shots , and shots at some kind of artificial islands. A highlight among many other great shooting situations is, for example, a steep 30m downhill shot at a dragon. There are plenty of long-range shots on this course.
Unfortunately, there is no larger shooting range here. There are only a few bales of straw near the road or the meadow intended for parking.
Overall, the course is particularly suitable for advanced and very ambitious archers who are looking for demanding terrain and the challenge of difficult shots. There are usually three differently coloured pegs attached to the stations. A yellow peg for compound, a red peg for adults and a blue peg for kids, teens and beginners. In some cases, however, there are also targets with “special shooting positions”.
Landscape and Special Features
Many years ago, the paths were very elaborately integrated into the landscape of the quarry. To make it easier to overcome the inclines in the quarry, a total of more than 500 steps were carved into the terrain and many critical points were secured. Nevertheless, depending on the weather, it can be slippery and difficult to walk here at times. The archers who visit this course should definitely be sure-footed and, at some destinations, free from vertigo and always equip themselves with sturdy shoes. The signposting on the site is quite good, although due to the compactness of the course it is sometimes a bit confusing. It takes about two to three hours to complete a round of the Wolfsschlucht archery course and covers a good 2.5 km.
Although the course runs in the quarry, the Wolfsschlucht is not an arrow grave! On the one hand, the sandstone is mostly very soft and now overgrown. On the other hand, backstops were also installed in some cases. These have sometimes been painted in such a way that they are not visually visible. In the course of the course there is a break station at about station number 15, where you can usually find drinks, sometimes coffee or biscuits for a small donation, usually on weekends in summer. There is also a rudimentary toilet at the break station.
Registration & Prices
The registration for the course is located a little away from the site near the country road. There is a small wooden shed that serves as a ticket booth and where the formalities can be done independently by each shooter.
The usage fee is a daily fee and amounts to EUR 12.50 for adults. For children and young people, a reduced fee of EUR 8 must be paid.
If you would like to shoot at the Wolfsschlucht 3D Archery Course, you must have your own archery equipment or at least bring one with you, as there is no bow rental on site. However, there are several archery shops in our region who offer bow rental.

Compound bows are allowed without restriction.
Broadheads are prohibited!
There is a break station where drinks are deposited, especially in summer, and sometimes biscuits are offered.
A simple toilet is available at the break station in the middle of the course.
